White Bear Lake Area Hockey Association

The final game was a close battle with Hopkins. White Bear was down 1-0 for most  of the first period. The White line Tommy Hammons, Colton Altringer and Jordan Woodard crashed the net during the second period and Tommy banged it in to tie up the game.  The game went into overtime with White Bear outshooting Hopkins 20-7 in 3 periods plus 5 minute overtime.  A five man shootout was to be the deciding contest between these two teams. First up for White Bear was Aidan Olson who put a zinger right in the upper shelf past Hopkins goalie. Hopkins first shooter was blocked by White Bear goalie Sean Gilbert. The second shooter for White Bear was center Preston Jaques who bounced a hard shot through the goalies leg pads to put White bear up 2-0  for the shootout. Again Hopkins could not put one past White Bear's Gilbert with the second and third shots blocked. Third up for White Bear,  Michael Rittenhouse deeked the goalie , but the shot was stopped and the score was WBL -  2 Hopkins 0 after three shooters each.  The Referee signaled that WBL had won! The team celebrated and went through the hand shake line  and showed good sportmanship.  BUT WAIT  -  There was confusion between the score box and the ref and the shootout had to continue because Hopkins could tie it up in the scenario if WBL missed and Hopkins scored on both remaining shooters. So the tension mounted once again and Hopkins fourth shooter went to the center ice and skated in with the puck.  Gilbert made the save that clinched it for White Bear. Great tournament boys! It was a wonderful TEAM effort!!
