Dear WBL Hockey Members,
We hope this letter finds you and your family well in these times of COVID-19 driven uncertainty. While the hockey season seems to be far off in many of our minds and we hope we will be able to fulfill our spring and summer activities, we continue to pave the way for a tremendous 2020-21 hockey season.
This letter will contain a lot of information, we encourage you to please read through all items.
The 2020 Annual Meeting and Election Update
With the stay-at-home order extended to May 18th, the annual meeting has been tentatively rescheduled for May 27th at 7:00 PM - WBL City Council Chambers. The formal election process will be run from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM, preceding the annual meeting.
Since the election is of utmost importance to secure the future of the association, the board is exploring any and all options. With the prospect of the stay-at-home order being extended, yet again, the board is weighing options for open/outdoor or virtual meetings and virtual means to complete the election. We are reopening the nomination period for the Co-Treasurer (2) position, as the incumbent candidate has withdrawn her candidacy. All interested parties shall submit their letter of intent to the Secretary at secretary@wblhockey.com no later than May 13th, 2020. If we receive no letters of intent for the vacant position, the position will be appointed by the board, in accordance with the bylaws. We encourage everyone to consider this opportunity to volunteer and become part of the board. We also have additional non-voting positions available and we welcome your talents and commitment. Board Changes
It is with great sadness, that the board has to announce the following resignations.
Kevin has been a part of the White Bear Hockey Family his entire life - serving as association President for the past eight years. He has played an integral part in the growth and success of our program and his efforts have helped to set us on a path of sustained success. Kevin will continue to be an active and involved member of our association and continues to work with our board to help steer us through the transition.
Rob has served the board in a number of capacities through his tenure and has been coaching throughout his time with White Bear Hockey.
Rob’s board seat will remain vacant, and the plan to fill his position during our 2020 annual meeting remains unchanged.
Both Cathy and Alisha guided the association through a transition period and guided many association-wide changes.
As noted above, the Co-Treasurer (2) position will remain vacant, and the plan to fill this position during our 2020 annual meeting remains unchanged.
The board thanks each for their service and dedication.
Board Appointments
On May 1st, the board appointed Chad Marquardt to the office of President and he will fulfill the remainder of Kevin McFarlane’s term, which is set to expire in May 2021. At which time, the position will be opened, per bylaws, as a duly elected position at that 2021 Annual Meeting.
The board retained a lawyer to review current bylaws, provide opinions on any questions surrounding the nomination and appointment process during this transitional period. He presided over a Zoom conference with all current board members and ensured the process was binding and all bylaws were followed.
On May 5th, the board appointed Kurt Larsen to the office of Co-Treasurer (1) and he will fulfill the remainder of Cathy Lydon’s term, which is set to expire in May 2022.
